Futura is one of the earliest forms of the geometric sans serif typeface. It was designed in the year 1922 by German designer Paul Renner. He named this font style very rightfully as Futura i.e. the font of the future. Various other subtypes of the font were developed before the actual production of the font had begun. It was only in the year 1936 that the Bauer foundry started producing this font commercially.
